SPL Sorensen - Inventor of pH scale, is on Google Doodle

Google is celebrating a Doodle on the inventor of pH scale, SPL Sorensen. Let's know more about him.

WHO IS SPL SORENSEN :

  • He was born in Havrebjerg in 1868
  • The Danish scientist who invented the pH scale
  • He introduced the pH scale in 1909
  • Sorensen became head of the prestigious Carlsberg Laboratory in Copenhagen from 1901 to 1938, the year before his death
  • He died on February 12, 1939, at the age of 71


WHAT IS THE pH SCALE :
  • pH scale stands for ‘potential of Hydrogen’ and basically measures the concentration of hydrogen ions in a solution
  • The scale ranges from 1 to 14. A measurement of 7 is neutral. Anything lower than 7 is considered acidic; anything higher than 7 is considered alkaline.
